What is the Myers’ Cocktail?

The infusion is named after Dr John Myers, a Maryland physician who developed an intravenous vitamin and mineral formulation in the mid-twentieth century. Versions of the formula have been used in clinics since.

Nutrients taken orally pass through the digestive tract, and how much reaches circulation varies between individuals and formulations. An infusion bypasses the digestive tract, which can produce higher circulating levels than an equivalent oral dose. Whether that’s clinically necessary for you is discussed at consultation.

What This Infusion May Help With

  • Hydration
  • Replenishing nutrients where dietary intake or absorption has been inadequate
  • General wellbeing support

Who Might Consider This Infusion?

  • People with demanding schedules, for hydration and nutrient support
  • People who train regularly, for fluid and electrolyte replacement
  • Frequent travellers, for rehydration after air travel
  • People including it in a broader wellness routine

Suitability is assessed individually at consultation.

Exploring the Myers Cocktail Infusion Benefits

Why do so many of our clients regularly book Myers cocktail IV sessions? The benefits are as diverse as the people we treat. Because this infusion addresses fundamental nutritional gaps, the results can be felt across several areas of your life:

  • Rapid Rehydration: More effective than drinking litres of water, especially after travel or intense exercise.
  • Enhanced Energy: By fueling the mitochondria (the powerhouses of your cells), you may experience a sustained lift in energy without the “crash” of caffeine.
  • Immune Support: Fortify your body’s natural shield against seasonal illnesses.
  • Calm Mind: Many clients report that the “brain fog” lifts shortly after their Myers cocktail infusion benefits kick in.
  • Stress Reduction: The combination of magnesium and B vitamins helps regulate the nervous system, promoting a sense of calm.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

01.How often should I have this infusion?

This depends on your individual circumstances and your practitioner’s advice. If you’re recovering from an illness, we’d encourage you to speak with your GP about what’s appropriate for you.

02.Are there any side effects?

As with any intravenous procedure, there are risks to be aware of. The most common are bruising or discomfort at the cannula site, a warm sensation during the infusion (a known magnesium effect), and a temporary taste in the mouth. Less common risks include inflammation of the vein, fluid leaking into surrounding tissue, infection and allergic reaction. Please see our Safety Information section and discuss your history with your practitioner.

03.What makes this a "modified" Myers infusion?

The original formulation has been adapted over time, and modified versions typically adjust the concentrations of vitamin C and the B group vitamins. Your practitioner can talk you through the formulation we use.

04.How long do the effects last?

This varies between individuals. Your practitioner can discuss what’s realistic for you.

05.Can I eat or drink before my appointment?

Yes. We recommend a light snack and staying hydrated beforehand, which helps keep your blood sugar stable and makes cannulation easier.

06.Do I need an infusion if I take oral vitamins?

For most people, oral supplements and a balanced diet are appropriate. Absorption can be reduced in some circumstances, including certain gut conditions, some medications and increasing age. An infusion bypasses the digestive tract, which can produce higher circulating levels than an equivalent oral dose. Whether that’s necessary for you is something we’d discuss at consultation.
