Isolation Skin

Wellness 30 Oct, 2021

Another lifestyle change to add to your long list of unwelcomed side effects of Lockdown- Isolation Skin. Yep, it's a thing and it's a pain in the behind. Going into isolation, I tried to look at the positives it could present, one of them being that my skin would be lovely and clear and glowing because I won't be wearing any make-up and I'll have more dedicated time to spend on my daily skincare regime

Vitamin B

Vitamin B is fantastic at treating inflammation and is gentle enough for rosacea sufferers to use also. It is a great hydrator too! A brilliant Vitamin B serum I recommend is by Australian owned company, Aspect Dr. La Belle Clinic stocks Aspect Dr but due to the Lockdown, it is currently unavailable. In the meantime, I suggest using The Ordinary’s Niacinamide serum which you can purchase from Priceline.

Cleanser

Now is the time to put away your harsh cleansers and opt for a more gentle one. Look for cleansers that don’t strip your skin of its natural oils- this only encourages your sebaceous glands to work overtime resulting in oilier skin than you started out with.

Shelf your Vitamin A…for now

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge advocate for Vitamin A, but it may just be a bit too much for your skin right now. Vitamin A is phenomenal for treating fine lines and wrinkles, but your main focus right now should be treating your inflammation and possible rashes. Vitamin A will only aggravate these.

Vitamin C- Even out your skin tone and give yourself a gentle chemical peel at the same time. Once again Aspect Dr has a brilliant Vitamin C serum, but my second choice would be finding a gentle product that contains Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid.

“Basically, isolation skin is skin that’s changing as a result of our changing lifestyles and emotional wellbeing amid COVID-19. Just as we’re making sense of how coronavirus is impacting our livelihoods, daily routines, work, finances, relationships, and physical and psychological health, our skin is kind of confused too. For some, isolation skin looks like angry hormonal acne or pimples in places you don’t normally get pimples. Others will find they keep breaking out in a rash, or their rosacea, redness or sensitivity is flaring up big time.”

Moisturiser

Slather this on your face like it’s going out of fashion, particularly considering the oncoming cold weather and exposure to heating devices. Stay away from gimmicky products like pink clay, foaming masks or anything with fragrance added. These products do nothing for your skin, and will, more often than not, contribute to your breakouts.

It doesn’t help that you may be looking in the mirror more than usual at the moment, but rather than feeling overwhelmed or down about your skin, know it will eventually settle over time and you can ride it out just like the rest of the changes you are facing during Lockdown. And for extra peace of mind, once La Belle Clinic has re-opened, we will be welcoming you with open arms ready to treat your skin no matter what condition it may be in, and help it transform it into the glowing, healthy and vibrant skin you deserve.
